Biography

I have always loved reading, writing and kids, so naturally becoming a children's book author and editor for an educational publishing house were dreams come true!

I graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana, with my degree in elementary education. I taught first grade for four years and have multiple years of substitute teaching experience ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade classrooms. I began pursuing my dream of becoming a children's book author by joining the Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators in 2003. Soon after I was asked to be a Network Representative for the group, a role I kept even after moving to a new location. As a member of the group, I was able to grow as a professional by accepting committee roles to plan and facilitate various writing conferences, workshops and retreats. I have enjoyed the privilege of meeting and working with editors, agents and authors from all over the country.

My first picture book manuscript was acquired by MeeGenius, Inc. in 2011. Shortly after, two more manuscripts were acquired by them and all were published by 2014. In 2016, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt acquired the license for all three of my books to become a part of the Curious World subscription service app.

In 2014, I was hired as an editor at Studies Weekly, Inc. I wrote nonfiction articles, teacher lessons and resource materials, proofread publications in various formats and collaborated with the graphic design team.

Today, I am continuing my editorial work as a professional freelancer and hoping to continue finding success as an author!
